Missy's Right Hip
A few months back I noticed Missy was reluctant to go up or down the steps. She would wait until she absolutely had to relieve herself before she would go down the steps. I then noticed she began to hold up her right leg when she stood. Bo did the same thing so I was hoping it was her hip and not that she tore her ACL. After consultation with my vet it was determined that it was her hip and not her knee. I began giving Missy Etogesic but soon even that wouldn't help. The best solution would be to replace her hip. Since it's quite possible Missy would live another 4-5 years replacing the hip would pay for itself in about 2 years.
On September 10, 2001 Missy and I made the trek to
OSU Vet
Hospital for he evaluation/admission. Things went very well.
Since I had such problems with OSU when they replaced her left hip I made sure
the student (Rachel Reid) and the surgeon (Dr. Juan Marti) understood Missy's entire
medical history and how bad the last surgery went. In the end missy passed
her evaluation and was admitted for surgery the next day. Dr. Marti
recommended that I not visit because it was important for Missy to remain calm
after surgery. Rachel was GREAT! She called me 2-3 times a day
keeping me well informed. The only sad thing about the surgery was that as
it was being performed the World Trade Center and the Pentagon was being
attacked. A day none of us will ever forget.
